Are you ready for Big Sur & Apple Silicon
Big Sur, the new version of the macOS operating system, is likely to be released during Apple’s next announcement on the 10th of November.
Big Sur replaces the current version of macOS called Catalina (10.15.7). It marks the biggest change in a decade, as Apple begins a move to replace Intel processors with their own “Apple Silicon” chips – the same chips that are used in the iPad Pro.
This means that a new range of computers with Apple Silicon are set to be rolled out.
Significantly, the switch to Apple Silicon will further blur the distinction between Mac (macOS) and iPad (iOS). I wonder how long it will be before MacBook and iPad merge to become a single product?
Below is a list of computers that can upgrade to Big Sur:
- iMac – 2014 and later
- MacBook Pro – Late 2013 and later
- MacBook Air – 2013 and later
- Mac mini – 2014 and later
To check if your computer can upgrade, click the Apple icon and select “About This Mac” to discover the age of your computer.
As always, with new versions of macOS, we recommend waiting a few months before upgrading to ensure any major bugs have been ironed out.
Daylite & Big Sur
Daylite is already fully compatible with Big Sur & Apple Silicon.
However, future versions of Daylite will not support older versions of macOS.
For example, the next version of Daylite is compatible with Big Sur (macOS 11.0) and Catalina (10.15.7) only. It will not support High Sierra (10.13x) or Mojave (10.14.x).
If your computer does not yet have MacOS Catalina or Big Sur you will not be offered further updates of Daylite.
Dark Mode comes to Daylite
Dark mode for Daylite will be available for macOS Big Sur. It is already available for iPhone and iPad. We think it looks great!
Display your Calendars in Daylite
Full external calendar integration is already available for iOS Daylite on iPhone & iPad, and it now also available on Daylite for Mac. You can view Outlook, Teams, Google, iCloud calendars in Daylite’s calendars.
Better still – you can actually make changes to the date, time & name of the event within Daylite.
New Feature for Getting Things Done
At the beginning of 2020 Implicit set out to improve our efficiency by applying the GTD methodology to our work.
I have to say it has been a transformational experience and we feel great about the results. It’s also been a great learning experience when applying GTD to Daylite – Look out for a new GTD section on Implicit’s website soon.
For those of you already familiar with GTD, you will be pleased to learn that there is a great new option called “Next Action” which is available within Column Views. This will display the next task or the next appointment in a single column for People, Companies, Opportunities & Projects. We think this is an excellent new feature.
Beachball of Death! – has your Mac become really slow?
Before splashing out on replacing your slow computer, did you know that by replacing the hard drive with a solid state drive (SSD) you can significantly increase the speed and extend the life of your existing iMac or Mac mini for another few years.
Implicit offers an SSD replacement service and our customers have been delighted with the results.

Harmonizely – A simple booking system for Daylite
During lockdown visiting clients was no longer an option for Implicit. However this was not a problem because we found an amazing product called Harmonizely – an online meeting booking system that integrates beautifully with Daylite. It was an immediate success and now we could not run our business without it.
Harmonizely is now a permanent fixture for us – just got to work out to pronounce it!
As we all now spend time in virtual meetings – I am convinced that everyone would benefit from a system like Harmonizely:-
- You send a link via email
- The recipient books a convenient slot by viewing your availability in Daylite.
- A confirmation email is sent with a Zoom or Teams link
- An email reminder is sent to the recipient prior to the meeting.
- A convenient reminder pops up on your screen just before the meeting.
Harmonizely is simple to use and saves so much time by cutting out all of those back and forth emails and phone calls.
We have implemented Harmonizely for a number of our wealth Management clients already and the results are amazing – they all love it.
Here’s why we think it is important for Wealth Management businesses:
- During the pandemic it enables advisors to maintain their client engagement & evidence their client servicing
- Harmonizely allows the clients book their own financial review – it’s so convenient & the feedback has been amazing
- The booked appointments appear in your Daylite Calendar ready for review packs to go out
- Its all about keeping that relationship going – Many advisors have added a more informal 15 minute “Quick Chat” option for any questions that their clients may have.
We can set up Harmonizely for your business too – get in touch for more information
I hope that you remain safe & well during the lockdown and I look forward to speaking with you soon.
